University of Buckingham

Robert Taylor, pro-director at the School of Oriental and African Studies, will succeed Richard Luce in January 1997 as vice chancellor.

University of Kent at Canterbury

Robert Freedman, professor of biosciences and pro vice chancellor, has been appointed deputy vice chancellor, succeeding John Craven; John Slater, director of the computing service, has been appointed pro vice chancellor.

British Copyright Council

Heather Rosenblatt, general secretary of the Composers' Guild of Great Britain (1993-96) has been appointed secretary of the council, in succession to Geoffrey Adams.

University of Aberdeen

David Wilson, former editor of The China Quarterly, undersecretary in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office responsible for Asia and the Pacific and governor of Hong Kong (1987), has been elected chancellor of the university from January 1.

British Academy

David Lockwood, research professor in sociology at the University of Essex and chairman of the Economic and Social Research Council's committee to review government social classifications, has been elected to the academy council for three years.

Loughborough University

David Spiller, former director of the British Council's Recife office in northeast Brazil, has been appointed director of the library and information statistics unit.
