Do you have experience of working in the games industry and are you passionate about passing on your knowledge to students? Are you looking for an ambitious role in an environment that is open, vibrant and encourages new ideas? Then join UEL as a Lecturer in Games and you could soon be leading, developing, and delivering high quality, innovative and engaging teaching.

At UEL, we know the world of work is changing and that means our students will need to develop critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and resilience to realise their potential, which is why we’ve embedded these future-proofed tools at the heart of every one of our degrees. We’re also looking for outstanding teachers who exude a love of teaching, inspire, and empower students and colleagues through their approach and are committed to achieving excellent outcomes for students.

Your challenge? To lead, develop and deliver innovative teaching across a range of modules and courses in our Games Cluster at undergraduate level. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues and management on the development of existing and new programmes with the view of continuous improvement.

As well as a degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience in Games sector, you may have a postgraduate qualification and/or be working towards one. You will have an understanding of a range of relevant industries and games business contexts and experience in collaborating with industry partners.

We are particularly looking for academics that have experience in at least one or more of the following areas taught at UEL:

  1. Creating textures and materials using the Substance suite
  2. Using real-time rendering engines and game engines such as Marmoset, Unreal Engine 5 and Unity in the context of the art pipeline as well as for presentation purposes
  3. Developing game ready characters, environments and or hard-surface 3D models and sculpts
  4. Scripting languages such as Python, C# and Unreal Engine 5 Blueprint
  5. Version/source control using Git, Subversion or Perforce
  6. Knowledge and experience of using project management methods such as SCRUM and using industry standard software such as Jira
  7. Experience using game engines such as Unity/Unreal
  8. Knowledge and/or professional practice of game art such as: environment, character, hard-surface and material and texture creation
  9. Knowledge and/or professional practice of game design concepts such as: system design, level design and gameplay design
  10. Knowledge of 3D modelling applications such as Blender, Maya or 3DS Max

Adept at conveying ideas to students from a range of backgrounds, you will also bring a deep dedication to closing the award gap, gender equality, and LGBTQIA awareness/visibility/empowerment. You will also enjoy developing professional relationships with students, colleagues, employers, and outside agencies alike.

At UEL, we aim to attract and retain the best possible staff and offer a working environment at the heart of a dynamic region with excellent transport links. You can look forward to a warm, sincere, welcome, genuine camaraderie and mobility in an institution led with passion, visibility, and purpose. Your impact, resilience and sense of collegiality will directly contribute to UEL’s future and those of the students whose lives you will touch and change forever.

We also offer a great range of benefits including pension, family friendly policies and an on-site nursery and gym at our Docklands Campus.

Applications for 1x FTE position (permanent), or 2x 0.5 FTE (2 years fixed-term), will be considered.
