About This Opportunity 

We are seeking an Associate Professor to join our outstanding accounting discipline. You will have strong experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and the ability to contribute to curriculum development in the School’s Accounting programs. You will also perform research, administrative and other activities associated with the School and you will also be expected to undertake leadership roles and have a record of supervising HDR students successfully. A specialisation in financial accounting or audit is highly preferred. 

We are also considering applications from Lecturers or Senior Lecturers (equivalent to an assistant professor). If you are an early to mid-career academic, we also encourage you to apply as there may be additional opportunities available at this level.

The Accounting discipline at UQ has a long history of excellence in international research. It has seen many notable faculty in the last 40 years including Accounting Hall of Fame member, Ray Ball. Throughout this time, it has always sought to encourage excellence in teaching and research and counts many of the world’s current leading academic accountants as alumni.

The discipline is highly ranked in global surveys, and it is proud of several young faculty from leading research institutions who continue this tradition of excellence. The new appointee has an exciting opportunity to join this vibrant group of accounting teachers and researchers.

This is a full-time continuing position.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level D will be in the range $158,869.17 - $174,870.17 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $185,876.94 - $204,598.10 annually. Variations from base level salary may be negotiable for exceptional candidates but are subject to senior executive approval.

For applicants at Level B or C salary package details are as follows:

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $108,201.26 - $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 - $149,996.05 annually.

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level C will be in the range $132,201.83 - $152,202.33, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676.15 - $178,076.72 annually.

As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You:

For Appointment at Level C or Level D

  • Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in accounting or a related area.
  • An established profile in teaching and research within the discipline, with national recognition and an emerging international presence, substantiated by a robust record of publications in high-quality, refereed journals and conference presentations;
  • A strong history of securing, managing, and leveraging external research funding; evidence of high-quality teaching across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels in various settings, alongside a track record of effective course coordination and active involvement in the development and continuous innovation of programs and curriculum;
  • A solid history of supervising Research Higher Degree students to successful completion; and a growing engagement in meaningful internal service roles, coupled with a substantial contribution to external activities.
  • Evidence of exceptional teaching quality and leadership in both internal and external contexts.

For Appointment at Level B

  • Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in accounting or a related area by the time they commence in the role.
  • A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.
  • Evidence of a high research potential demonstrated through a developing pipeline of working papers targeting high-quality refereed journals and conferences and/or published high-quality journal articles.
  • Demonstrate the willingness to seek, obtain and manage external research funding.
  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours or postgraduate level across a variety of settings.
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
