The Catholic University of Korea is a private Roman Catholic university. It is the oldest in South Korea having been established in 1855 with the creation of St Joseph¡¯s Seminary.

The university went through a number of different iterations before it was named The Catholic University of Korea in 1995 with the merger of St Joseph¡¯s Seminary, the College of Medicine, and Songsim Women¡¯s University.

There are two campuses, one in Seoul, the other in Bucheon City.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees to students, in the study areas of: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are a range of courses to study from music to religious studies, from special education to biomedical chemical engineering. The Catholic University of Korea also offers a range of international programs, including the Interchange Program, where students can study abroad for either one year or one semester.

The university has eight affiliated hospitals: Catholic Medical Center, Seoul St Mary¡¯s Hospital, Yeouido St Mary¡¯s Hospital, Bucheon St Mary¡¯s Hospital, Eunpyeong St Mary¡¯s Hospital, Incheon St Mary¡¯s Hospital, St Vincent¡¯s Hospital, and Daejeon St Mary¡¯s Hospital.

Notable alumni include actor Yoo Ji-tae.

Seoul is South Korea¡¯s capital city, famous for its role in the technology industry with hubs located in Gangnam and Digital Media City. The area is a base for several multinational companies, such as: Samsung, LG and Hyundai. Seoul is also a city for sport and culture, having been the host for the 1988 Summer Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup. It was also host to the 2010 G-20 Summit.. Notable attractions in Seoul include the Gyeongbokgung historical palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Namsan peak.
