About the area

UWA Design is a dynamic and collegial multi-disciplinary School offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in History of Art, Fine Arts, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design. The School is organised into the correlating five discipline groups, and additionally houses the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC). Academic staff deliver high quality teaching and learning, and produce internationally renowned research across scholarship and creative practice. Our School is future-focused and comprehensively prepares graduates for careers, further study, or research within Australia and around the world.

One of the five discipline areas within the School, History of Art offers a Major through the Bachelor of Arts; a Curatorial Studies Minor; and from 2025 is introducing a Bachelor of Art History and Curatorial Studies, followed by an end-on Honours degree. Becoming a greater focus within the new degree, curatorial studies is key to future career opportunities for students and graduates from a range of study areas. It is integrated within History of Art and intersects with the Fine Arts offerings within the School, as well as fields of education and research in other schools at UWA. The appointee to this position will help to develop this expanding field.

	Deliver outstanding teaching in Art History and Curatorial Studies at undergraduate and Honours levels, while innovating curriculum and assessment methods to enhance student learning experiences.
	Actively participate in the governance and collegial life of the Discipline and School.

About you 


	PhD in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related discipline.
	Demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching and learning, including prior tertiary teaching experience, at undergraduate level.
	Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for units and courses, particularly within History of Art (including Curatorial Studies, and desirable in Fine Arts).
	Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion principles.?
	Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to team, school and wider University activities such as team and school meetings, strategic planning and program development, and to be involved generally in administrative matters.
	Experience in and/or an active curatorial practice with developing national or international profile.

Job Description

The postdoctoral research is part of the MASH Junior-funded?transMUtation?project led by Dr. Kévin Salesse (Moving toward a?TRANSformaTive bioarchaeology of cremATION in Czech republic and beyond –?https://www.muni.cz/en/research/projects/70565).

The postdoctoral research will focus on:

Developing a?country-wide, multi-isotope isoscape (strontium, oxygen and potentially sulphur) for the Czech Republic using modern samples to enhance isotope-based geographic assignments in bioarchaeology; Investigating mobility patterns and provenance based on isotope data for both inhumated and cremated individuals from bi-ritual and mono-ritual cemeteries, spanning various time periods across the Czech Republic. Skills and Qualifications

The applicant must have:

A PhD in anthropology, bioarchaeology, archaeology, geochemistry, geology, geography, or a?related field; Proven experience with GIS modelling; Good communication skills, both oral and written in English; Driving license B. The applicant should have:

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in systems engineering, data science, industrial engineering, computer science or a closely related field, with a strong commitment to quality teaching. They should have good interpersonal and communication skills in written and spoken English; and should be self-motivated, highly-organised and a good team player.

The appointee is expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and develop final year project topics in, but not limited to, three subject clusters: (1) engineering management including project management, quality management, operations management, supply chain and logistics management, and engineering economics; (2) systems analytics including operations research, intelligent decision and analytics, industrial optimization; and (3) cyber-physical systems including robotics and automation, IoT (Internet of Things), digital twins, cyber-physical systems, and smart industrial systems.

He/She will also be expected to perform any other duties as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The position is part of the 8-year Centre for Research Based Innovation?SFI Autoship. Here, we are joining forces with more than 20 partners from industry, public sector, universities and research institutes. Research areas cover competences that the Norwegian maritime industry needs in autonomy, digital infrastructure, maritime transport, safety and risk analysis, maritime law, human-machine interaction, and cyber security.

In this position, you will conduct research on how situational awareness for an autonomous surface vessel (ASV) can be obtained from sensor data and other information sources. ?

Your immediate leader is Professor Edmund F?rland Brekke.

Duties of the position


	Environment representation:?Develop and investigate different representations of the environment and knowledge used in ASV situational awareness.?
	Sensor fusion:?Develop new methods for real-time fusion of data streams from different sensors for tracking, mapping and localization in the context of ASV situational awareness. Relevant sensors can be radar, lidar and cameras, mounted both on the ASV, on other vessels and on stationary locations.
	Verification:?Evaluate the suitability and performance of the representations and methods using both simulations and experiments with real ASVs.?
	Publication and Dissemination:??Publish the research findings in well-known international journals. Present research outcomes at national and international conferences to disseminate knowledge.
	Education:?Take part in the mandatory PhD research education program.?
	Attend and follow up meetings in relation to the Centre activities.


Required selection criteria


	You must have a professionally relevant background in in cybernetics, electronic systems, statistics or computer science.
	Your education must correspond to a five-year Norwegian degree program, where 120 credits are obtained at master's level.
	You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies and an average grade from the master's degree program, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared with NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic basis. If you have a weaker grade background, you may be assessed if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.
	Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented by 31st of December 2025.
	You must meet the requirements for admission to the PhD programme in?Engineering Cybernetics. ?

	Background in sensor fusion, statistics, computer vision and/or autonomous systems.?
	Proficiency in programming (Python, Matlab, C++) and experience with machine learning tools (Pytorch, Tensorflow) will be advantageous.
	Experience with sensor calibration and synchronization will be advantageous.
	Good written and oral English language skills.

Salary and conditions

As a PhD candidate (code 1017) you are normally paid from gross NOK 532?200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years (or 4 years with 25 % teaching duties for suitable candidates).

Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in?Engineering Cybernetics?within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.?
