Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam was established in 1983 to provide women with a professional education and leadership skills. It remains a university for women today, committed to its mission of "emancipation of women through acquisition of knowledge".
The university is located in Tirupati, a city in Andhra Pradesh, south-eastern India.
The university offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. There are four schools: school of sciences, school of social sciences, humanities and management, school of nursing, and the school of pharmacy. Each school offers a range of courses for students to study.
Since 2007 the university has been participating in international research collaborations with higher education institutions around the world. These partnerships also facilitate student exchange programmes, allowing students of the university to study abroad whilst the university welcomes international students from across the globe.
The university has developed partnerships with international universities such as the University of Oxford, Penn State University and the University of Texas.
