SIT focuses on working with the industry on translational research and innovation, spanning technology readiness levels (TRLs) 3-7. Unlike traditional research which is discovery-oriented, applied research projects have higher TRLs which bridge the gap between theoretical research and industry applications. SIT Engineering Cluster focusses on the five key pillars of Applied Research (i) Infrastructure (Maintenance) (ii) Sustainability (Built Environment) (iii) Energy Resilience (iv) Maritime Engineering and (v) Advanced Manufacturing, working with various industry sectors in Singapore as well as in the region.

For this faculty position, we are looking for candidates with an engineering background, who have extensive experience in?intelligent robotic systems.

Job Description:

SIT is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of?Assistant/Associate Professor. This position emphasizes excellence in teaching and applied research. As a faculty member, you will play a crucial role in shaping the education and research endeavors of our institution.

Teaching Responsibilities:


	Delivering high-quality lectures and interactive classes in topics related to robotics, robot operating system (ROS), system engineering, computational mathematics, C/C++ programming, data structure and algorithm, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning at the undergraduate level.
	Developing engaging course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with established curriculum guidelines.
	Employing innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning experiences.
	Mentoring and advising students on academic and career-related matters.
	Evaluating and providing constructive feedback on student performance, including assessments and projects.
	Actively engaging in academic research to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.


Applied Research Responsibilities:


	Conducting cutting-edge research in autonomous system, human-robot interaction, AI for robotics and AI-driven control system, with an emphasis on practical applications and industry relevance.
	Seeking external funding and grants to support research projects and initiatives.
	Collaborating with colleagues, both within the institution and externally, to foster interdisciplinary research and contribute to the overall research goals of the department.
	Publishing research findings in reputable journals and presenting at conferences and symposia.
	Supervising graduate students in their research work and guiding them to facilitate their success.
	Engaging with industry partners and stakeholders to develop collaborative research projects and foster technology transfer.

Qualifications:


	A Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
	Strong experience in mechatronic system design, robotic perception, autonomous system, human-robot interaction and integration of sensors/ actuators with robotic system.?
	Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++ and Python, ROS, AI and machine learning, and their application to robotics.
	Significant experience in applied research, with a focus on practical applications in industry.
	Experience in securing external research funding and managing research projects.
	Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and industry partners.
	The ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented academic environment.
	A commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and research.

For this faculty position, we are looking for candidates with an engineering background, who have extensive experience in the area of digital supply chain.

Essential


	Academic and/or industrial experience in design and managing digital supply chain solutioning and supply chain management.
	Having a background and interest in one or more fields of digital supply chain, including but not limited to digital supply chain transformation, digital manufacturing, E-procurement, E-commerce, E-logistics.
	Experience and knowledgeable in one or more areas of supply chain operations management, risk management and operations research, such as demand forecasting, inventory control, procurement, manufacturing, distribution, warehouse and transportation simulation, optimization and management.
	Motivated to develop and to teach curriculum in supply chain sustainability.
	Strong demonstration of interest to develop supply chain security, supply chain digital twin, and artificial intelligence solutions through applied research projects.


Desirable


	Good knowledge in digital supply chain-related technologies such as AI, LLMs, Cyber Security, IoT, 3D printing, automation, supply chain security, digital twins, and block chains.
	Hands on experience in commercial digital supply chain solutioning projects with both hardware and software elements.
	Experience in digital supply chain related projects with strong integration of the three pillars, i.e., Digitalization, Resilience and Agility, and Green Supply Chain.
	Preferred to having a PhD in a related technical area.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The researcher will be part of the team of the MCCS NATURE Project (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/Cuge/Programmes-Schemes/Research%20Programmes/MCCS%20Programme).?The primary role involves developing and validating CFD models to study wave attenuation by mangroves, seagrass, and coral. Responsibilities include calibrating simulations with experimental data, analyzing shear coefficients and drag forces, and contributing to interdisciplinary research on coastal protection, with an emphasis on delivering accurate and impactful modeling insights.

Key Responsibilities


	Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	Undertake these responsibilities in the project:


1. Wave Stochastic Analysis and Hydrodynamics


	Conduct advanced stochastic analysis of wave environments to evaluate the performance of floating structures.?Analyze hydrodynamic behavior of floating breakwaters under varied sea conditions.


2. CFD and Finite Element Modeling


	Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize the design and performance of floating breakwaters.
	Develop finite element models for stability assessment, structural integrity, and dynamic response of floating systems.


3. Connector Design


	Design and analyze mechanical connectors for the integration of multi-purpose floating breakwater systems, ensuring structural stability and durability.


4. Design and Integration


	Develop innovative designs for floating breakwaters that integrate wave energy converters (WECs), tidal energy systems, and solar energy platforms.
	Optimize design configurations to maximize energy harnessing and wave attenuation.


5. Experimental Testing


	Plan and conduct physical model tests in wave flumes or basins to validate computational models.
	Analyze experimental data to improve and validate the floating breakwater design.


6. Research Documentation and Dissemination:


	Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to disseminate findings to academic and industry stakeholders.
	Contribute to project proposals and progress updates for funding agencies.
	Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.


7. Project Management Support:


	Ensure timely execution of project milestones
	Coordinate with external collaborators and manage data-sharing protocols.
	Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.


Job Requirements


	PhD/Master’s in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
	Proficiency in hydrodynamic modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA, OrcaFlex) and finite element analysis software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS).
	Experience with stability and mooring system design.
	Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data collection instruments and techniques.
	Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
	Good understanding of industry standard will be an advantage
	Ability to work independently and in teams in both lab and field environments.
	Excellent communication (verbal and written) and teamwork abilities

School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Research Fellow to join our dynamic team.

About the role

The Dean of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, Distinguished Professor Brian G. Falzon, holds the Chair of Composite Materials and Aerospace Structures. Having recently joined Western Sydney University, Prof Falzon is establishing an Advanced Composites Research Group within his School, continuing and building upon a body of work undertaken at similar groups he established at previous academic institutions.

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow is currently being sought who will pursue research, and proposal development, in Advanced Aerospace Composite Materials and Structures, and support Prof Falzon in the establishment and expansion of this research group. The appointee will also be expected to assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and contribute to teaching, if required.

The appointee will be expected to:


	Lead an active research program (as agreed with the Dean),
	Develop research proposals in applied and fundamental research,
	Assist in the supervision of Honours, Master, and PhD students.


Primary Project Details

The increased prevalence of the use of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) material, in the latest generation of passenger aircraft and road vehicles, has necessitated a closer examination of the crashworthiness of these structures. In addition, the emergence of hydrogen-powered vehicles, equipped with FRP pressure vessels that carry hydrogen at up to 700 bar pressure, necessitates the reliable assessment of their performance in crash and other off-design ‘event-based’ scenarios.

The Research Fellow will build upon the extensive work that has already been accomplished by Prof Falzon’s research groups, to further develop a multiscale finite-element modelling capability to accurately capture the energy absorption of composite structures.

The concept of a ‘crush stress’ in a finite element model using 2D shell elements, will be expanded and adopted within a computational multiscale framework where laminate coupon tests, required to extract crush stresses for various geometries and layups, are simulated using a high-fidelity damage model developed by Prof Falzon. Further research and development are required to (i) establish a reliable modelling strategy to capture crush initiation in coupons with specific trigger geometries; (ii) accurately model the response of plies crushed in a direction not aligned with the principal fibre direction; (iii) capture the response of the crushing of 2D/3D woven FRPs which exhibits a more complex response than unidirectional (UD) plies; and (iv) explore strain rate – material property relationships.

This capability will be used to aid the design of energy-absorbing CFRP structures and will be validated using a set of manufactured energy-absorbing composite sub-assembly representative structures and other test results available in the literature.

In parallel to the computation work, the Research Fellow, assisted by PhD students, will explore experimental approaches for the acquisition of interlaminar and intralaminar dynamic fracture toughness values required for the computational analysis.

Skills and Experiences

The ideal candidate will hold a doctoral qualification in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, have demonstrated expertise in the finite element modelling of FRP composite structures and possess an advanced understanding of the fracture and damage mechanics of these materials, experience in developing user subroutines in ABAQUS and proficiency in FORTRAN coding are essential. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality research, evidenced by publications in Q1 journals, excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities, are required to work effectively within our team. Additionally, you will have the capacity to contribute to the supervision of Honours and HDR students and have experience in conducting material and structural testing.?
