It has long been seen as a central role of universities to engage with and support surrounding communities and those further afield through their teaching, research and investment. But the pandemic has pushed civic engagement even higher up the agenda with people all over the world looking at ways to rejuvenate flailing economies. Universities, as major employers and leaders in education and research, have a central role to play in driving the recovery.
