We were delighted to read your report of our efforts to support staff in enhancing their skills and qualifications through taking courses at the university (Whistleblowers, THES , January 3). As the first university to win recognition as Investors in People, we pride ourselves on our commitment to staff development. But we were surprised at the implication that this was "underhand". My email was distributed to all staff to prompt those taking courses to re-register. Staff sometimes need reminding of their own needs as well as those of their students.
