I see that Oxford colleges are now advertising academic positions to be remunerated on "an age-related scale" (Classified, THES , January 16).
At least it is explicit. Isn't it time pay-scale rules were adjusted to allow for the inclusion of academics who begin their careers late and who, on age-related scales, are not economically viable propositions for entry-level employment, or should we all just hang up our gowns now?
