Anything goes

John Rushforth's defence of the First Destination Survey (Letters, THES , February 14) does not ring true. I was employed as a telephone interviewer by a university that shall remain nameless. We counted as employment for our statistics any job, from stacking shelves to bar work. Those who had secured employment in their field of study were a minority and mostly from law, veterinary studies and medicine.

How can Rushforth claim data accuracy? Does he stand over people's shoulders when they are on the phone?
