Best-practice policy

You say that I have criticised my university's policy on the admission of disabled students ("Middlesex disability policy is censured", August ).

This is not true. I have never criticised our policy, it was its implementation that I questioned. Our policy remains exemplary and fully reflects the requirements of disability legislation and best practice.

My fear was that its implementation might entail extra training and iteration as we approached clearing with some temporary members of staff.

My admissions colleagues acted on my concerns and re-emphasised the admissions code we last reviewed in 2003.

The criterion for being offered a place at Middlesex is academic merit. We discuss any specific learning support after an offer has been made.

As I write, 193 students with disabilities will begin programmes at Middlesex in late September.
