Choice cut

Million+ has not said that post-1992 universities would lose out because they would be in direct competition for places with private institutions ("Private providers set to go head to head with universities on places", News, 14 June). The real risk is that students will lose out if there is a cap on the overall number of students who are funded and places are transferred to private providers. This would reduce choice, in particular for mature students who often want to study locally at universities that are known and recognised for their excellence in teaching and research.
