"When I first wrote about the student experience of learning in the early 1990s," writes Paul Ramsden, "no one had heard of the idea" ("No thinkable alternative", 5 August).
I'd like to gently remind him that it was hardly a solo effort. More than a decade earlier, he and 10 colleagues from Britain and Sweden came together to share their research on the subject. One key outcome was The Experience of Learning (1984), to which Ramsden contributed a fine chapter. It has long been out of print, but a later version is freely downloadable from the link below.
