Liz McDowell is reported as questioning the relevance in this day and age of grading students ("Don't weed out, help students blossom", September 7) and substantiates her argument by quoting non-classified medical degrees as an example worthy of emulation. Can one safely assume that if an occasion arose when she had to go under the scalpel she would be indifferent as to whether the surgeon had gained top marks in surgery or had passed on a re-sit?
