What, exactly, is the reader supposed to conclude from Miles Hewstone's comments about women psychology graduates? That women are intrinsically given to misunderstanding and incapable of wanting to study science? That 20 per cent of male psychology students correctly believe that psychology has nothing do with soppy stuff such as people? Or does it have "something to do with" the fact that professors of psychology, like students, are sometimes prone to "pad out" their work with "unsubstantiated claims"?
