Dress codes for lecturers are not new. A few years ago, I was part of a group being briefed prior to a stint of teaching in prison. As the oldest and least attractive member, I was taken aback when the person in charge advised, "and don't wear anything provocative", and appeared to stare directly at my cords (Taiwanese, 1977, Shipley Market, ?7.99, broken in). Needing the work, I dispensed with them, but not immediately.
