Ethics of autonomy

If what the Council for Industry and Higher Education is proposing is an all-embracing ethics-driven code of conduct for universities, well and good ("'Ethical' degrees get cool response" March 25). But if what is being proposed is that degree content be changed to include awareness of a range of issues that may be high on the agendas of some individuals but not high on those of others, then this amounts to an intrusion into academic autonomy. If that is the case, I hope the proposals will be comprehensively rejected.
