It may well be true that "Reading Aristotle can roll back the tide of relativism" (21 July), but I wonder how far Socrates and Plato can be pressed into service in the "struggle against subjectivism", when the former believed his decisions were influenced by the advice of his personal guardian spirit (daimon), and the latter described in detail the culture of the lost land of Atlantis. Great feats of the imagination, perhaps, but, I suggest, not good examples of "objectivity and intellectual detachment"!
