Sir Derek Roberts' narrow view on improving London's poor innovation record ("Narrow focus key to London innovation", THES , June 13) does the capital no favours. Ignoring the potential of institutions other than his own and the other two cited - Imperial and King's - will do more harm than good to London. Modern universities such as Westminster have much to offer in ensuring knowledge and technology are transferred between higher education and small and medium-sized businesses. Indeed, our innovative work in supporting many of the capital's new-media business clusters has been cited as the only exemplar in London by the Higher Education Reach-out to Business and the Community programme.
