Islamic prospects

There were many speculative and inaccurate stories in the press last week concerning the Prime Minister and events at 10 Downing Street. Your contribution to this was the article "'V-cs, Muslim leaders meet PM" (News, September 8).

I was the only vice-chancellor at the meeting. Most of the other participants were young Muslims involved in a variety of projects engaging with young people. The conversation was not about "extremism on campus" but rather about the Government's broader engagement strategy with Muslim communities.

My own contribution was a reflection that, of the many things we do at Bedfordshire University in Luton to promote community cohesion, perhaps the most important thing was to enhance the job prospects of so many young Muslims who attend their local university.
