You quote Steven Weinberg as saying, "I can think of no other explanation for Israel's treatment than anti-Semitism" ("Jewish laureate calls off UK visit", May 25).
Couldn't the world's longest illegal occupation perhaps be an imaginable explanation?
Indeed, isn't Weinberg's accusation that anti-Semitism in Britain is "widespread" almost as stupid and repugnant as anti-Semitism itself?
None of which is to support the silly and diversionary calls for boycotts of Israeli goods, universities or academics. As Howard Moss rightly avers (Letters, May 25), "the vast majority of University and College Union members want their union to focus on pay and conditions".
