Journal rankings do not recognise quality (2 of 2)

As a struggling "new researcher" who has been encouraged by an experienced academic like Dennis Tourish (Letters, 13 January), I support his sentiments about the tyranny of journal rankings.

Here is a suggestion: the 19th-century French Impressionists rejected by the official Paris art salons set up a "salon des refusés" instead, and by showcasing their work eventually achieved legitimacy for the new style of painting. How about a "journal des refusés"? I'm sure many of us have the equivalent of a few journalistic Manets in the attic, rejected by the five-star critics but with similar potential for changing the academic establishment.
