Just stop picking on the ILTHE 4

University lecturer training courses are not generic as Helen Beebee suggests. They are designed for a rich diversity of staff experience. Participants value the opportunity to discuss teaching with colleagues from other disciplines. Probationers are mentored and usually have their workloads eased. Beebee also misses the point on ILTHE membership as a criterion for promotion. This is only one new criterion in an attempt to redress the balance that has favoured research output.

The short existence of the ILTHE compared with august organisations such as the Royal Society of Chemistry makes statements regarding the professionalism of the ILTHE premature. Give it a chance.
