Letter: Aping uniqueness

Sarah Franklin cites "statistics" showing that humans have 98 per cent of their DNA in common with chimpanzees, and presents this as "powerful evidence that it is clearly not genes that account for human uniqueness" ("Gene answer spawns a lot of questions", THES , June 15). Evidently she believes a chimpanzee brought up from birth in human society will display the characteristics of human uniqueness.
