Your report on the new brand identity of "Imperial College London" (Diary, THES , January 17) followed close on the heels of its abortive merger with University College London. Years ago, I led a review team at Imperial and was given a tea mug as a parting gift. It has endured endless cleanings, but only recently has the insignia "Imperial College" disappeared. Tea leaves are not the only fortune tellers. Mugs perform that function, too.
