Your editorial on the future of Oxford ( THES , June 20) declares that those who wish it to become more like an Ivy League university, with more postgraduates and a greater emphasis on research, "have a strong case".
Those who might oppose such a move and defend undergraduate teaching, on the other hand, "represent a powerful lobby".
I have a case; you are a lobbyist. My arguments have the strength of reason; your arguments, if you have any, are merely a cloak for self-interest and entrenched power. It is gratifying to see The THES taking an interest in Oxford's internal affairs. A pity only that the argument is pre-judged before it has begun.
