Nottingham answers sought

The University of Nottingham's statement on Rizwaan Sabir's arrest and detention under anti-terror legislation is at odds with the student's account ("Nottingham scholar held for 6 days under anti-terror law", 29 May). What the university describes as "a thorough and sensitively handled investigation" in Rizwaan's words was "sheer psychological torture".

What is missing from the statement is why the university did not conduct its own investigation before calling in the police. The assurance from his supervisors that the material was relevant to his research should have prevented its disproportionate response.

Missing from your report is the fate of the clerical worker who now faces deportation on an unrelated matter.
