Alan Ryan's article (Opinion, THES , April 11) is sad - literally and in the colloquial use of that word. He makes a too close association between diversity and affirmative action, even when he comes to illustrate his view with "two interesting points".
Diversity is not about legislation or political correctness: it's about celebrating the wonderful and sometimes frightening things that transform us from a monochrome culture into a rainbow nation - to borrow Archbishop Desmond Tutu's phrase.
