Reality check 2

As a graduate, I am not prone to student-hating prejudice. But when I am repeatedly woken in the middle of the night by my student neighbours and sworn at when I ask them to keep the noise down, my patience is wearing thin.

Part of being a member of any community is participation in its democratic processes, so if students do not bother to register as electors where they study, it is hardly surprising that MPs do not regard them as constituents.

Universities could do much to mitigate the problem of studentification by constructing more purpose-built student accommodation. Their employees would be among those to benefit from the improved quality of life in residential areas adjacent to their work.
