I share your respondents' distaste for intelligent design and their dismay that it should be taught in schools. But one of your contributors stated that "evolution has stood the test of time". If he meant that the process of evolution has alone been responsible for the world as we know it, I would agree. If he meant that the (Darwinian) theory of evolution has been around long enough to be considered safe, he is on shaky ground. Longevity does not make a theory correct and 150 years is nothing when set against the millennia for which much of mankind has believed in a creator. I hope he meant that the theory of evolution has been tested for a while and not found wanting. We should continue to test it but be open to the possibility that it may fail and need to be replaced by something else (also testable).
