The interest that United States higher education is taking in the Bologna Process ("America lacks the Bolognese recipe for true harmonisation", 14 August) is increasing.

Academics and funding organisations are beginning to take note of the process, the results and how these lessons could be applied in the US, as outlined in Cliff Adelman's publications.

The Lumina Foundation for Education is very interested in learning from the Bologna Process and, in fact, it funded the Institute for Higher Education Policy's work that resulted in the Bologna Club.

To further the dialogue, there will be a stronger-than-usual American presence at the European Association for International Education conference, "Re-designing the map of European higher education" in September.
