Tim Birkhead complains that his daughter, to whose education he makes a financial contribution, has some great teachers but one dull lecturer whose classes students either skip or spend texting their friends ("Stand - but you must also deliver", January 20). I suggest that he advise his daughter, first, to grow up and to recognise that the world isn't perfect, and, second, that she has a responsibility to herself, to her fee-paying father and to the taxpayers (who make a much larger contribution) to attend and to be attentive in lectures. The primary purpose of lectures is not entertainment - even a "dull lecturer" might have something to teach her.
