WORKHOUSE THEATRE. Graduating students at The Poor School and Workhouse Theatre will perform a play by Robert Holman at the Workhouse Theatre, Pentonville Road. Today is about English people in the 1920s and 1930s making their way through the maze of class consciousness. Performances at 8pm will run until April 22, matinees at 4pm on April 15 and 22. RETROVIRUSES

DOCTOR-PATIENTCOMMUNICATION

The Royal Society of Medicine has organised a conference called "New Models of Research in Doctor-Patient Communication" on May 16. Professor Perakyla, a Finnish scholar with an international reputation on the relations between medicine and social science will lecture. Presentations will follow by Christian Heath, King's College London; Kathy Davies, University of Utrecht; P. Strong, School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; and Peter Campion, University of Liverpool. Group sessions will analyse consultations. VIOLENCE:MODERN ANDPOSTMODERN

As part of the programme of Jon Lopategui memorial lectures held at Kingston University, Zygmunt Bauman, emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Leeds will lecture on May 17 at 7 pm.
