WORK-BASED LEARNING: The National Centre for Work Based Learning Partnerships at Middlesex University is calling for papers in any of the following areas: flexible learning for a workforce beyond 2000; how can organisations set about forming and sustaining work-based learning partnerships (costs and benefits); implications of work-based learning policy for professional associations, trade unions and training consultants; multiple accreditation of work-based learning, how does this address the academic/vocational training divide; career professionals and their continuing professional development; the significance of work based-learning within the context of European professional qualifications. ETHNICITY AND NATIONALISM: The end of the Cold War and collapse of communism has led to the revival of nationalism in the former Soviet Union and central and eastern Europe. This conference seeks to explore how nationalism continues to shape and reshape the process of nation building and the configuration of states and political movements in the New Europe. A two-day conference will be held at the University of Central Lancashire, September 12-14 and papers on the economic, societal, political and historical aspects are sought, particularly on: origins of modern nationalism; nation building; minority conflict; significance of national ideology, trends in national ideology and national political parties.
