Following completion of the first stage, the second stage will receive 11 billion won support annually for up to 6 years.
The Ministry of Science and ICT has selected Kyungpook National University as a “SW-centered university.” Kyungpook National University has been selected for the second phase of the project, following phase one, begun in 2015. The University will lead the advancement of SW education innovation by receiving a total of 11 billion won over six years (1 billion won the first year and then 2 billion won a year for the following five years).
A SW-centered university, which started in 2015, leads the training of SW professionals, including the reorganization of the SW curriculum due to industrial demand, expansion of the SW major quota, and training SW convergence personnel.
Starting this year, the second phase of projects to upgrade the SW education system, such as strengthening education on new technologies, including artificial intelligence and preparing differentiated SW curriculum by affiliates and levels, will begin.
A total of nine universities were selected for the second phase of the project for the first time, including seven general track universities, which includes Kyungpook National University (4:1 competition ratio) and two special track universities (5.2:1 competition ratio).
As part of the project, Kyungpook National University plans to form ‘SW Shared Universities to cooperate with other universities in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. On-site training will be strengthened through an SW industry-academic cluster in the industrial complex, which will be based on industrial demand. In addition, the SW Education Center will be promoted to the SW Education Institution. In order to strengthen convergence education, an SW convergence education committee will be established, chaired by the Vice President of Education.
This committee will install AI Computing Major (Track) in the Department of Computer Science and strengthen AI-related SW major education by majoring in artificial intelligence, data convergence computing, and artificial intelligence convergence education.
