In this interview, Kate Eichhorn, of New York’s New School, discusses the challenges facing higher education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the transition to online learning.
Professor Eichhorn highlights that although the move to online learning has shown that universities are able to adapt more quickly than previously anticipated, online education falls very short when it comes to student development.
She describes the attempts to create an online student life as “inadequate” and emphasises the value that the experience of independence provided by traditional education styles, such as moving away for university and participating in an authentic student community, has on the lives of young adults.
