Change from within

十月 15, 2015

Matt Clifford’s idea of encouraging early career academics to consider the entrepreneurial route is timely as it rightly questions the parity of esteem given to those academics pursuing a knowledge transfer career pathway (“Research is not the only path to academic success”, News, 1 October).

However, he also gives the impression that nothing is happening in higher education to develop and support entrepreneurial activity. As a membership network of more than 100 institutions that has been supporting and developing enterprise and entrepreneurship within higher education for more than 14 years, Enterprise Educators UK has witnessed the scale of work being done to support entrepreneurial students, graduates and early career researchers. Much of this work is delivered by individuals who have direct experience of entrepreneurship but, importantly, it is being driven from within the institutions themselves.
