In Vernon Bogdanov's review of my book Eminent Churchillians (THES, March 3) he states that I "say nothing to illustrate that the King did not give Churchill his full support" after December 1940. Yet on page 52 I state quite clearly that by Christmas 1940 the King, "was entirely happy with Churchill whom he by then thought the best man for the job. During the rest of the war their relationship blossomed, until by 1945 the King greatly regretted his defeat in the General Election".
Considering my essay was on the Royal Family and Appeasement, and that policy was well over by December 1940, I consider Mr Bogdanov's criticism otiose.
