Ken Goddard of the pro-acronym lobby, has produced a guide for the Labour party for selecting a name for its proposed qualification for 14-19 year-olds (Antithesis, April 7): it must be a pronounceable acronym of no more than three letters; it should contain no redundant words, such as "general"; and the word "national" should be replaced by "British" or "English". These hints would have prevented the disastrous GNVQ, he claims. But, having devised these rules, he does not suggest a name. Can anyone oblige?
