Ethnic experience at Oxbridge

Pat Younge highlighted the racial problems encountered by Shrupti Shah while attending Oxford University. Ms Shah makes a number of very vague and minor complaints: nothing specific, she "whinges" about "patronising tones" and "stereotypical attitudes". Most of her grievances would very probably be echoed by many white students at Oxford, but she seems to conclude that nearly all of her difficulties are supposedly the product of a predominantly racist British society. I sometimes wish that I had been born black so that I could blame white British society for all my disappointments and discontents.

Ms Shah has done well. Due to her own hard work, intelligence and application she has gained admittance to one of the finest universities in the world. British racism did not stop her going to Oxford. Both Oxford and Cambridge are making every effort to see that the ethnic minorities are properly represented, and quite right too.
