Deep in the bowels of Walworth Road the details of an education framework for the next century are being hotly debated. Key to Labour thinking is a unified qualification system for all students aged 14 to 19. But the big idea has reached a critical hitch. They don't know what to call it. General Certificate has already been rejected because it sounds too old-fashioned. Some have even suggested the GCSE of the future will be named after a great leader or statesman. This all sounds like a challenge for readers of this column. Suggestions are most welcome - unless you want your children revising for their Blairs before long.
