Science, innovation and technology are central to Labour's industrial strategy for improving Britain's competitiveness. Policies in the Business Prospectus, announced on Wednesday by Tony Blair, include an audit of the Technology Foresight programme, more high-tech company start-ups, supporting the Design Council and improving environmental regulation. Adam Ingram, shadow science and technology minister, said Labour recognised the need for a strong science base. The party has also proposed a University for Industry to help workers adapt and improve their skills.
