A group of international professors are launching a journal to teach potential innovators how to be entrepreneurial.

The International Journal of Entrepreneurship Education (IJEE) will be launched on 11 December at the University of Warwick's Business School in the UK.

'What makes a successful entrepreneur varies across industries, and within the different stages of a firm's evolution, but the constant features of successful entrepreneurship can be taught,' said Andrew Burke from the Warwick Business School - one of the journal's founding editors.

Can entrepreneurship be taught? 'Creativity and entrepreneurial spirit are crucial for entrepreneurs, but education certainly helps develop the skills and knowledge required to ensure professional leaders in entrepreneurship can rival 'fat cat' monopolistic companies,' said Dr Burke.

This is the position taken by EU Commissioner for Enterprise and Information Society Erkki Liikanen, who claimed recently that 'Entrepreneurial attitudes and skills can be encouraged in young people from school to university. Entrepreneurship should be promoted as an attitude [...] through the development of personal qualities such as creativity, risk-taking and responsibility.'

The journal will cover peer reviewed case studies and teaching strategies as well as the latest research on enhancing entrepreneurial leadership.

The first edition will look at major enterprises and address the issue of preparing current and future generations to anticipate, recognise and act on high technology opportunities. Other articles will focus on university spin-out ventures and the training background of today's high technology entrepreneurs. This issue includes contributions from academics in the UK, the Netherlands and Sweden as well as the USA. The journal will encourage academics and professionals from Europe to contribute further articles in the future.
