More popular than the paperback version of Edith Wharton's The Buccaneers, and nearly as popular as Interview with the Vampire, is a book by an Open University professor which reached the top ten in the Observer/Waterstone's bestsellers list recently. Russell Stannard's Uncle Albert and the Quantum Quest is a children's guide to quantum mechanics.
Professor Stannard is said to be delighted, not so much because of beating Wharton but because "there's not even a Jeffrey Archer or Jackie Collins in sight".
