Sharp shooters in a South African bar

John Insley is wrong to accuse me of poetic licence (THES, August 4).

The person I saw in a bar in the Orange Free State, South Africa (THES, July 4) was wearing the insignia of the Iron Guard of South Africa.

The AWB formed this elite "sharp-shooting" unit in 1991, to emphasise its paramilitary character (see Kotze and Greyling Political Organisations in South Africa, A-Z).

I agree with Mr Insley that atrocities have been committed in the name of Marxism, as they have, for example, in the name of various religions.

What differentiates Marxism from Fascism is that a serious reading of Marx shows the need for social justice and equality for all.

Such an interpretation of Fascism is not possible.
