The data from Erasmus+, the European study abroad scheme, reveal how many UK students went abroad through the programme in 2012-13 for each of the 145 participating UK higher education institutions.

Nottingham came out on top with 522 Erasmus students, while the University of Leeds was second, with 459. Other institutions with a large Erasmus cohort included the University of Sheffield (447), the University of Manchester (438) and the University of Bristol (422).

Thirty-six institutions sent fewer than 10 students abroad through Erasmus, with seven of those having just one participating student.

Altogether, 14,572 UK students went abroad with Erasmus+ in 2012?13, just 1.8 per cent of the total number of UK graduates, and 29 per cent came from the 10 institutions shown in this graphic.
