The School of Development Studies at the University of East Anglia has been renamed the School of International Development. It was established in 1973 and was the first of its kind in the UK dedicated to studying development in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Bruce Lankford, head of school, said the change "reflects contemporary framings of 'development' as societal and environmental change occurring in all countries at all levels. For a global audience, international development carries more meaning than development studies about the purpose and focus of the school."
