Middlesex wins enterprise award
Middlesex University has today won the Queen's award for enterprise, in recognition of its recruiting a high number of overseas students. It boosted overseas student numbers by 43 per cent between the autumns of 1999 and 2002, with the number coming from Asia rocketing 80 per cent over the same period. Many of these students come from China and Hong Kong.

Clean bill of health for Thames Valley
Thames Valley University has received a clean bill of health from the standards watchdog, the Quality Assurance Agency. The agency,&nbsp;which identified the university as failing in 1998, endorsed academic quality and standards in its first full review of the university since 1998.

NUT claims fewer extra teachers available
Research conducted for the National Union of Teachers challenges government claims that there are 2,000 extra teachers in England and Wales. NUT delegates meeting in Harrogate were told that John Howson of Oxford Brookes University found there were barely enough extra teachers to keep pace with increases in pupil numbers.
