Why not follow the lead of Edge Hill University and house students in a Pontins camp, where they can sample the delights of Lunars Showbar and play crazy golf?
Edge Hill, in Ormskirk, Lancashire, is placing some of its 25,000 students in holiday apartments at Pontins in nearby Southport after campus halls filled up, the BBC reported.
A university spokeswoman said that “in a year when we have experienced increases in demand for our courses, there is a number of students looking for options off-campus”.
She added: “Both Unite and Pontins have indicated that rooms may be available and we have passed on information and taken potential students to see what they have to offer.”
It is unclear whether any Edge Hill students will stay at Pontins in the 2012-13 year, when the university will charge maximum ?9,000 fees.
Students living the Hi-de-Hi! life at Pontins could sample music and cabaret from the Bluecoats – described on the company’s website as “a non-stop rollercoaster of entertainment full of energy” – as well as taking advantage of venues such as the Queen Vic pub, Captain Cods, and the Bake ‘N’ Bite.
Or undergraduates could take part in one of the Pontins “beauty quests”, including “Miss Pontins” and “Lovely Legs” – although only the maturest of students would qualify as a “Glamorous Gran”.
Student fans of the Cheeky Girls will no doubt be singing Hooray Hooray (it’s a Cheeky Holiday) after learning that “the fun-loving Transylvanian twins Monica and Gabriella will be performing LIVE at Pontins throughout the year”.
“Popular accommodation” offers a fitted kitchen, private bathroom and lounge with TV. But top-of-the-range “club accommodation” includes “free electricity, towels, digital TV, complimentary kitchen pack with tea and coffee”.
